K-Drama Review: Angel’s Last Mission: Love

Prianka Chaudhary, Delhi

2019 was the year of amazing dramas, Angel’s Last Mission: Love being one of them. I was never a big fan of Kim Myung-soo, but this drama completely changed my perspective about him, and he is one of my favourite actors now. This drama, released in May 2019, achieved high ratings at that time and also bagged many awards such as the KBS Best Couple Award, Best New Actor Award, and many more.

Talking about the plot, this drama is a story of a talented ballerina, Lee Yeon-seo played by Shin Hye-sun, who loses her eyesight in an accident which makes her cold and bitter towards everyone. Soon, more events follow that add to her miseries, and she starts to detest everyone. On the other hand, we have Kim Myung-soo as Kim Dan, an optimistic angel without a care, who often finds himself getting into trouble. In order to return to heaven, he must complete a mission. What is this mission, and how does he fulfill it, forms the rest of the story. The cast does a fabulous job of bringing each character to life. One can feel the emotions that run throughout the narrative. This drama made me feel all kinds of emotions. Some scenes made me laugh while the others just crushed my heart.

Shin Hye-sun, who essays the role of an elegant ballerina, is remarkable. Frankly, I never imagined her playing such a character, but she nailed it. She gave such a strong performance that I was mesmerized. And not to forget the beautiful ballet performances that kept me hooked! Kim Myung-soo, who plays the role of an adorable and innocent angel, made me fall for him. He portrays his character with such sincerity that the audience cannot help but cheer for him in everything he does. While watching the series, I could not imagine anyone else playing the character with such finesse.

Furthermore, each episode was a delight to watch. It kept me on my toes, and I could never get enough of it. The story was powerful enough to hold me until the end. The ballet performances were beautifully choreographed. I also liked that every character had her/his own story, and they weren’t reduced to mere side characters. Every character had a secret and a reason for carrying out their respective tasks. I also enjoyed listening to the OSTs, especially ‘Pray’ by Klang and ‘Sweeter’ by Jess Penner. Here is one OST for all of you!
