If you have never watched any Korean drama before but are always intrigued when your friends continuously chat about them the whole day, then worry not, just allow me to help you out there and introduce you to a whole new world. K-dramas are the Korean-language TV series that have a variety of genres to choose from. After the recent Hallyu or Korean wave, Korean culture is increasingly getting popular among the youth across the world.

So, before you get confused about where to start your journey from, I am going to list 5 must-watch K-dramas for beginners that I am sure will not only help you release all your stress and worries but will also make you fall in love with the culture of South Korea, as in no time, you will be wanting to explore more dramas on your own.

Boys over Flowers

Boys over Flowers is one of the most iconic dramas of all time and the first on my list. A romantic yet amusing story based on a Japanese manga portraying a poor and ordinary girl named Geum Jan-di and the leader of the famous four chaebol heirs named Gu Jun-pyo. The funny yet sweet chemistry among the lead characters makes the drama really heart-warming and fun to watch. The lead actors of this drama are Lee Min-ho and Ku Hye-sun.

Descendants of the Sun

Descendants of the Sun is one of the most popular dramas among K-drama fans. It depicts the love story between an army captain Yoo Si-jin, and a doctor Kang Mo-Yeon. Their relationship faces lots of ups and downs due to the absolutely different nature of their jobs. This drama shows the hardships of their relationship amidst adversities like war and the Uruk earthquake and how they manage to overcome these obstacles. The drama shows a perfect balance of all the emotions along with amazing soundtracks. This drama stars Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo in the lead roles.

Strong Girl Bong-soon

Another highly-rated drama by K-drama lovers, Strong Girl Bong-soon is one of my favorites. It showcases Do Bong-soon, who is born in a family where women are blessed with superhuman strength. However, she tries to appear as a weak, timid girl in front of her crush In Gook-doo, a police officer, and keeps her strengths a secret for her own good. Her dream is to create a video game based on herself, and she somehow manages to land a job as a bodyguard of Ahn Min-hyuk, a rich heir and the president of a gaming company. This drama is full of heart-warming, cute moments but also has the presence of a creepy and psychic villain, who brings unpredictable twists to their lives. This drama has Park Bo-young, Park Hyung-sik, and Kim Ji-soo in the lead roles.

The Heirs

Another immensely loved drama among Hallyu fans, The Heirs is the story of rich high schoolers, who are heirs to large realms and an ordinary girl. A 17-year-old boy Kim Tan, exiled by his elder brother with the motive to take over the conglomerate, is sent to the United States where he meets a girl named Cha Eun-sang under extraordinary circumstances. The story takes new turns after Kim Tan falls for Cha Eun-sang despite being engaged to Yoo Rachel, the heiress of another large conglomerate, and returns to South Korea. The drama revolves around bullying, love triangles, fights among family successors, and much more. The Heirs spices up the curiosity level when Kim Tan has to choose between his love and the legacy. This drama is another feather in the hat of Lee Min-ho as it is one of his most popular K-dramas overseas along with lead actress Park Shin-hye. Watch out for the dreamcatcher in the series!

My Love from the Star

My Love from the Star is one of the most famous K-dramas of all time and revolves around the theme of sci-fi, history, romance, and comedy. Do Min-joon, an alien, who lands on earth during the Joseon Dynasty falls in love with a beautiful actress Cheon Song-yi 400 years later. Cheon Song-yi’s stupidity and foolishness, along with Do Min-joon’s dashing looks and the sincere acts of love, make the drama really engaging for the viewers. An undeniable chemistry between the lead pair has also made them the best K-drama couples of all time while also providing them with the most awards for their roles in the series. This drama will make you laugh immensely and cry sorrowfully. This drama stars Jun Ji-hyun and Kim Soo-hyun as the lead pair.
