If you love to watch Korean dramas, movies, and television series, and horror is your go-to genre, then I have a movie recommendation for all — Alive. After Train to Busan (2016), this is the zombie flick that I thoroughly enjoyed! This Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye starrer was released in June 2020 in Korea and is directed by Choi Il-hyung. It is based on Matt Naylor’s script, Alone.

#Alive revolves around Oh Joon-woo, a video game live streamer, who lives with his family in Seoul. As zombies take over the city, he struggles to survive in the infested place. He is joined by Kim Yoo-bin, another survivor, and together, they take on the zombies.

This movie mirrors our modern lifestyle. In a time when our dependence on our gadgets has increased, personal relationships have suffered a lot. It is only in a state of calamity do we realise how precious they are. It also teaches us to never give up even when the conditions are extremely harsh and there is no scope for survival. The main theme is ‘you should survive’, reiterated time and again in the movie.

Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye are brilliant in their roles. Yoo Ah-in is funny, goofy, and likeable. He manages to depict his feelings with sincerity and simplicity. You will relate to him as he does not try to portray himself as a hero but an average human trying his best to survive. Park Shin-hye also dons the role of a tough and courageous girl, who is vulnerable but also displays a presence of mind.

With slight twists and turns, there is never a dull moment, and one will thoroughly enjoy the medium-paced movie as it will keep you guessing till the end. I will totally recommend watching this one to the people who prefer this genre.

#Alive is also available on Netflix. Watch the trailer here:
