K-Interview: Singer & Songwriter SPLEN

Isha Singh, New Delhi

For people who aren’t yet aware about you, could you please introduce yourself as well as elaborate a bit on your stage name – “Splen.”

Hello guys. My stage name is Splen and I’m a singer-songwriter. “Splen” comes from the first three syllable of “Splendid” which means great.

We would like to know about how your love for music started to grow to the extent that you end up choosing it as your career.

When I was nine years old. I listened to various songs of Ne-Yo and Chris Brown through my sister’s mp3 player. So I’ve naturally started to admire R&B musicians since I was young. Thanks to my sister LOL.

Were people around you – your closed ones, supportive about your career choice? How was their reaction?

My family and friends have been giving me a lot of support.

Talking about your music, you have released three songs – Midnight in this city, Being left Alone, Love? Please tell us a bit about the inspiration behind these tracks.

“Midnight in this city” was written based on the feelings of watching the movie “Midnight in Paris.” “Being left alone” is a song about the feeling of loneliness that I felt at the time. And when I wrote “Love?” I was so confused about what is love. So I wrote it with a heart of complaining about whether what I feel is love or not love.

If you could describe your music in just four words, what would it be?

Wow, it’s so hard to answer in 4 words. But maybe… love, parting, loneliness and emptiness?

As you are an independent artist, could you please throw some light on the process of the song production – from getting a tune to the magical end product?

I don’t think there are a certain orders for making songs. Sometime I put writing the lyrics as priority, but sometime I write the melody or the beat first. As the second half goes on, I try to be more objective to revise and listen to it one by one.

Are there any artists you really admire or inspired by? Also, do you have future collaborations you really wish to do?

It’s difficult to choose only one as I admire various artists. Off the top of my head, Braxton Cook is most inspiring singer to me currently.

For listeners, what type of artist or person do you want people to remember you as?

I want to be remembered as an artist who is always sincere and developing in music.

Personally, I really love your music and so does many out there! Have you ever thought of naming your fandom, which is bound to get pretty huge in the near future?

I haven’t thought about it yet, but I plan to make it soon. As one of my precious fans, could you share with me any good ideas?

Other than working on music, do you have any hobbies or things like to do in your free time?

Shopping, soccer, and watching movies are my favourite. Also, I love to collect LP records.

As an artist and as an individual, did the pandemic impacted your life? If yes, how?

I wanted to have a face-to-face performance and communication with audience. Speaking of which, I can rethink how Covid-19 impacted our lives and imposed restrictions.

Lastly, is there any message which you want to convey to your current and future listeners?

I try to keep you enjoying many songs. To do so, I’m gonna release a few more singles within this year. So it would be very appreciated if you take an continuous interest in my songs and me.
