Answer Within Ourselves: “Magic Shop” By BTS

BTS is the world’s most renowned and popular boyband. Their slogan Love Yourself, Speak Yourself is not only a slogan but it has become a motto of lives for millions of people around the world. Their song MAGIC SHOP is from their Album named “LOVE YOURSELF: TEAR.” It is written and produced by their youngest member Jeon Jung-kook. It was released on 18th May 2018 and is considered a very special song for the fandom with a very special message enclosed within.

The first verse starts with their vocalists V and Jeon Jung-kook saying that they won’t talk in the air to make us feel strong and better rather they will tell us their very own story like how they have come this far and the sacrifices they have made, how people mocked them, how they faced so much failure in the life but it didn’t break them at all, instead they stood still as a strong pillar and supported each other. They are saying that listening to our story will give you strength and heal you.

In the second verse that starts with RM, he is saying like didn’t I say that you’d win, see you have made it! You were the one who made your way to me. I believe in you since you can overcome any situation and I also want to listen to your story about how you have come so far, and what are the things that make you happy. Always remember that at the end of my despair I found you. When I was not satisfied with myself, when there was no hope for me, when I was too tired to try things again, and when I wanted to give up, you were the last reason for me who was standing at the edge of a cliff. So, I want you to live your life.

The main essence of this song is in their chorus where Jin and Jimin start singing that there are days when I hate myself for being myself and there are some days also where I want to disappear forever because it seems like I won’t be able to take it. But, when you (ARMY) start feeling like there is nothing to comfort you then just make a door in your heart and when you will open that door and go inside you will find a place (Magic Shop) which will always await for you and it’s ok to believe because this magic shop will always comfort you.

Then Jungkook and Jimin sing, saying forget all your pains and just drink a glass of hot tea and look up at the milky way, you will be alright, we will always be there for you. The magic shop isn’t somewhere else rather it is inside you, the process of healing starts within yourself, you are the one who will heal yourself because no one can understand you better than yourself, you have to always believe in yourself. I know you can do it and always remember this magic shop will always comfort you. 

The third verse starts with J-hope saying that always remember that you are like a rose when you bloom, you are like cherry blossoms when you are scattered in the wind and you are the beautiful moment so don’t be disheartened, you are the best version of yourself. In the same verse Suga also says that we always want to be the best so we always compare ourselves with others this way we always feel impatient and restless and our greed for becoming the best which was my weapon became my leash and the reason for my unhappiness. So, be the way you are and accept yourself as the way you are, don’t try to compare yourself with others because you got the best of yourself, and therefore, embrace yourself wholeheartedly.

The bridge starts with V and Jimin asking would you believe if I say that I was also scared of everything; we are showing that we are strong on the outside, but at some point in time we were also afraid of things. We were also struggling hard to find the answers but the answers were always within yourself, it was there in this place you found, in your galaxy inside your heart. We know we can do it.

In the last chorus, all sing that just as we give the best of ourselves, we also know that you will give the best of yourself because as you have found me, as you have known me, you will also do the same thing, you will also find yourself and the answers that you were looking for, you will also get it, you will also find the galaxy inside you.

BTS has a special place in my heart; in a nutshell, they have transformed my life. I am a girl who does not meet society’s beauty standards, and throughout my childhood, I always felt like an outcast, I was always criticized for the way I look, people always mocked me, and even now, there was a time in my life when I was so broken that I didn’t even leave my room and I went into depression. My sister recommended them to me one day, and I began listening to their music, which gradually began to heal me, and today I can proudly declare, “I love myself and I’m very much elated being me and I’ve also stopped comparing myself with others because no individual is same.
