K-Restaurant Review: Busan Korean Restaurant, New Delhi

Ashley Kumar and Mehak Sharma, Delhi

Busan Korean Restaurant, located in the heart of Majnu Ka Tilla, is one of the oldest Korean restaurants in Delhi. The nearest metro station to the place is Vidhan Sabha on the Yellow Line. You would have to further take an e-rickshaw to reach the location. The restaurant was set up in 2012 and is co-owned and managed by Sangpo Namgyal. Miss Mehak Sharma and Miss Ashley Kumar had the opportunity to review the food, ambience, and overall experience at Busan Korean Restaurant on behalf of Hallyuism. Read ahead to know more:

Here’s the full address of the restaurant:

Ambience

As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a typical Korean vibe. Seating arrangements were on the floor, and we had to take off our shoes before choosing a table. After taking our shoes off, we were taken to a table which had a window facing the back of the colony. It felt nice and the speakers were blasting good K-pop music to set an authentic Korean mood.

The place also felt like it had a slight vintage touch which was delightful.

Food and Ratings

We ordered 4 dishes. 2 starters (one veg, one non-veg) and 2 main courses (one veg, one non-veg). Our starters included Vegetarian Kimbap and Yangnyeom Dak and our main courses included Vegetarian Tteok-bokki and Dak Dori Tang. Here’s a detailed explanation of every dish and their ratings:

Vegetarian Kimbap

Kimbap is a Korean rice dish that is full of rice and vegetables and is then wrapped in seaweed to give it a cylindrical shape. It is then cut into pieces and served with soy sauce. Our kimbap had 10 pieces and it tastes so good! We avoided using soy sauce as we didn’t like the combination much. We ate it with kimchi instead which tasted heavenly. We would definitely recommend this dish.

Our rating: 4/5

Yangnyeom Dak

In Korean, yangnyeom means ‘seasoned’ and dak means ‘chicken’. So, it is literally seasoned chicken which has a sweet, sour, and spicy taste. A good yangnyeom dak is really hard to find, but we were not disappointed by Busan’s version of this dish. It tasted amazing. It was sweet, sour, and spicy, just like it’s supposed to be. The portion sizes were also huge, and we were left licking our fingers. So, if you’re a non-vegetarian and looking for a good non-veg Korean starter, then Busan’s yangnyeom dak is for you!

Our rating: 5/5

Vegetarian Tteok-bokki

Tteok-bokki is a Korean rice cake and is said to be spicy, full of flavour with an authentic taste and remarkable texture. We’ve had our fair share of tteok-bokki, but Busan’s version left us a little disappointed. The dish looked amazing when it was served to us. It had the right sauces, vegetables and good portions. But as soon as we had our first bite, we felt that it was rather bland. The cakes had gone hard as well, and we weren’t able to enjoy tteok-bokki as much as we had enjoyed the other dishes.

Our rating: 3/5

Dak Dori Tang

Lastly, we ordered Dak Dori Tang. It is a Korean chicken stew where chicken pieces and potatoes (along with other vegetables) are braised in spicy Korean sauce. We were served this dish with a bowl of rice and after we had our first bite, we realized that we ended our lunch with the perfect stew-based dish. Every morsel felt like it was healing our souls. It easily became our new comfort food. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, and the chicken was perfectly tender. All the gravy left at the bottom was devoured with rice and that is when we felt delighted with ourselves. It melted all our tiredness and was also helping with digestion. Busan’s dak dori tang is served very beautifully and would 100% recommend it.

Our rating: 6/5

Overall Experience

Busan Korean Restaurant gives complimentary side dishes with your order. We were given cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, sprouts, chicken, and corn. All went very well with everything that we ordered. The place is always buzzing with customers, especially college students as the restaurant is quite pocket-friendly. But it might get a little hot as every table has a barbeque grill and all the heat gets mixed with the air-conditioning. So, we would recommend visiting the place during winter or monsoons to get the best Korean food experience.

Our overall rating for Busan Korean Restaurant: 4/5
