K-Drama Review: Love Revolution

Here’s a random question for you. What is love? Love encompasses a set of strong emotions comprising both positive and negative sides, and there are many types of love too but do you know how mostly cute high schoolers’ relationship starts? No? Then let’s find out through a South Korean web series named Love Revolution which was released in 2020. It stars Park Ji-hoon, Lee Ruby, Kim Young-hoon, Jung Da-eun, Im Da-young, Ko Chan-bin and Ahn Do-gyu. It is based from the popular Naver webtoon of the same name.

This teen drama is about Gong Joo-young, a 17-year-old high school student, who fell in love with Wang Ja-rim. He is a cute extrovert with a lively, lovable, sweet, and cute personality. He fell in love with Ja-rim at first sight and wanted to have a platonic relationship with her at first and even tried to approach her in many ways, but got rejected every time he did something for her or tried to be her friend. Things didn’t work out as he planned yet his feelings got stronger because of his imagination and he even thought that he and Ja-rim were destined to be together because of some trivial situations they faced together. But through his sincere display of affection, he perseveres in winning Ja-rim’s heart even though she is an ice princess.

Main Casts

Park Ji-hoon played the role of Gong Joo-young. He is a 17-year-old high schooler with a bubbly personality and an innocent soul, who found his love of life right after he fell for Wang Ja-rim, and through his sincere love he made a special spot for himself in Ja-rim’s heart. Lee Ruby played the role of Wang Ja-rim. She has an unapproachable personality. She is also really beautiful and is popular among her classmates. She was annoyed by Joo-young and even ignored him for weeks. But she finally accepts him as her boyfriend and even makes rules for her relationship and draws a line. However, her temperament towards him slowly softens as time passes and they get to have some really sweet teenage romance moments together.

Kim Young-hoon played the role of Lee Kyung-woo, Joo-young’s best friend. He is also one of the most popular students among their classmates. He has long bangs that cover his left eye. He jokes around and is friendly and kind despite his cold appearance. He has many charms that make his character worth thinking about.

My Thoughts

I will be honest with you all. I didn’t expect much from it because high school romance is not my cup of tea. I am more into motivating and thriller dramas. Totally different, right? But when I started watching this one, it amazed me. I was touched by how this web drama showed me the different types of love while keeping the main genre of it in the spotlight. The story is really appreciable. It not only shows how adorable high school romance can be even after having barriers in each step of their relationship but also makes us see how real high school life is. It kept us in touch with reality by showing the ups and downs that occurred in one’s life during high school.
