Only Korean Pop is a Mexican store started in February 2023 by two sisters, Montserrat and Marcela Venegas, passionate about Korean music and culture. Their store is popular for organizing different movie screenings of K-pop groups such as BTS, Twice, and ASTRO at a cinema in their precious city, Monterrey, Mexico. They sell varied merchandise from original K-pop albums and photo cards to fan-made keychains, postcards, photo cards, and their star product—life-size and desktop figures of your favorite Korean singers and actors. Recently, they organized two events in January, namely BTS Muster Sowoozoo & Happy Pink in Monterrey, Mexico. Here are some of those highlights from the respective events.

BTS Muster Sowoozoo

On Sunday, January 19th, 2025, they held a private screening of the BTS Muster Sowoozoo 2021 Day 2 for all the Monterrey Armys in the movie theater Riocinemas Cuauhtémoc, Monterrey. The movie was chosen through a survey made via their Instagram account. Attendees purchased tickets through their store’s WhatsApp. Upon arrival, attendees received a commemorative postcard and access to a photo spot with life-size figures of the seven BTS members. The number of attendees at the event was 150 people who belong to the BTS fandom, ARMY.

The movie theater has access for people with disabilities both inside and outside the establishment, including the cinema halls; it has a parking lot; and it is easy to get there using the city’s subway. As a surprise, they screened “Idol” and “Daechwita,” performed on day 1 of Muster Sowoozoo, and as a result, they received a lot of excitement and surprise from the attendees, who were grateful to see that they included these two iconic performances.

Happy Pink

To celebrate the birthday of Jisoo and Jennie, members of the K-pop group BLACKPINK, they organized a free entry event called “Happy Pink” on January 26th held in a restaurant-sport bar called Skygamers Pabellón M. The event was organized with other Mexican stores, Korean.marketmty, and Luckyhouse_mty, to meet more people belonging to the fandom and to enjoy a movie screening of Blackpink’s latest tour, “Born Pink.” Around 100 fans attended the event. The event itinerary included a moment of random play dance by BLACKPINK and other K-pop groups according to the suggestions of the attendees. A photo spot was decorated with the life-size figures of Jennie and Jisoo so that all the blinks attending the event could enjoy cute photos with their biases.

There was also a photo booth with various K-pop artists of their choice, and for every photo, they were able to keep a Polaroid as a souvenir. During the event, there was free registration for all the blinks who wanted to participate in the raffle for the Jisoo and Jennie figures. At the end of the function, the winners were announced, and it was an exciting and fun dynamic. The atmosphere was filled with joy and anticipation as fans celebrated their shared love for K-pop, capturing memories that would last a lifetime.

Organizer’s Experience

We are glad to receive good attention and feedback about our events. It is always a pleasure to enjoy a good time and meet people with whom we share interests. We believe having a store is not only about selling a certain product but also about helping create a good memory for all the people who assist our movie screenings.

As staff of both events, we enjoyed the good results of the event; a lot of families and adults were encouraged to attend the invitation made in advance. We consider that the activities of holding raffles and screenings for the events generate interest in the K-pop fandoms of the city of Monterrey.

A very friendly and fun atmosphere was generated; people sang loudly during the concert and it was a heartwarming moment, which is why we did not have any difficulties during the event. We like meeting more people who enjoy Korean culture and music. In addition, we always accept suggestions and listen to the opinions of the attendees to know which groups or artists would like us to organize more events.

Conclusion

As the curtains fell on the spectacular BTS muster Sowoozoo and Happy Pink event, both Mexican Army and Blinks were left with memories of an electrifying night filled with music and unity. The event, organized by Only Korean Pop, was a heartfelt celebration, showcasing the passion and unity of the K-pop community through creativity and shared love for the artists. Overall, the success of these fan-led events highlighted both BTS and BLACKPINK’s significance while also illustrating the essential role that fandoms play in generating cultural experiences.
