K-Interview: Jade (Singer-Songwriter)

Meet Jade, the Seoul-based singer-songwriter known for her dreamy, vintage sound, who is back with her new single, “Chocolate, candy, bread, love and dreams!” It’s a soft and cinematic pop track that feels like comfort itself. Inspired by 60s pop and French cinema, the song carries a simple yet profound message that feels like the hardest choice we make for ourselves on how to slow down, savor small joys, and remember that it’s okay to just exist. 

As Jade says, “I used to live by the rules of doing more and feeling less. But I’ve learned that slowing down makes life lighter and more joyful.” In this interview, Jade opens up about the story behind the song, her creative process, and everything you’d want to know before you let the song become a part of your playlist as well.

Could you please introduce yourself to the readers who are discovering your music for the first time?

 Hello, I’m Jade, a singer-songwriter based in Seoul, South Korea.

You’ve just released your latest single, “Chocolate, candy, bread, love, and dreams!” Can you please share what inspired the song and what this release means to you?

The phrase “A little bit of sweetness is perfectly fine” kept echoing in my head. And, lately, I’ve been really into desserts, so I wanted to write a song about sweetness, something fun yet comforting. It turned out exactly that way, and I’m very happy with how it feels.

I found your artist statement beautiful, especially when you said, “A little sweetness, a little rest, they’re more than okay.” It felt like something I genuinely needed to hear. What made you want to share that message through this song?

I think we often restrict ourselves too much, trying to follow rules and live up to others’ expectations. Through this song, I wanted to share a gentle reminder that a little sweetness and a little rest never harm us. They’re positive, comforting things we all deserve.

You worked again with Naivesign on this track. How does your collaboration usually take shape, and what do you value most about working together?

 Usually, I complete a rough version with chords, melody, and lyrics first, and then Naivesign fills it out with arrangement. He brings more color and depth to the song with instruments. We’ve been working together for about five years now, and we understand each other so well that the process is always smooth, fun, and satisfying. He’s truly a wonderful music partner.

The sound and rhythm of the song feels nostalgic yet modern. How did you bring that ’60s and French cinema-inspired vibe into it? And what first drew you toward that style, like, was there a personal story or moment behind it?

I’ve always been drawn to a mix of vintage and modern sounds. This time, I wanted to explore the vintage side more deeply, so I listened to a lot of The Beatles and found great inspiration there. And I thought adding that quirky and ironic sense of French chic would make it feel more distinctive.

The song feels like a handwritten letter, and recording it in a home studio adds to that personal connection. Was that intentional, or did it just feel like the right space for this comeback?

 I usually create and record most of my songs in my home studio. I think the biggest strength of my music is that it brings comfort to people, so for this song, too, I wrote, composed, and recorded it at home.

The title of the song, “Chocolate, candy, bread, love and dreams!” feels so unique, especially the way it connects sweetness and dreams. How did you come up with it? And I’d pick bread too, just like you! Hehe!

They’re simply things that make me happy just by thinking about them, so the title felt right. And yes, I totally agree, bread is always the right choice!

You’ve mentioned being inspired by artists like The Beatles and The Zombies. What is it about that era that resonates with you most? And will we be seeing something similar in your future projects?

Even though I didn’t live through that era, I can feel its sense of romance and innocence through the music. Those qualities never age, they always sound timeless and beautiful. I want to bring that same feeling into my own songs and keep creating music that stays classic and never goes out of style, no matter how trends change.

Your visuals and tone have always been such a big part of your storytelling, from Violet Dreamer to this vintage aesthetic. Do you usually start with an image, a color, or a sound when you write?

It always starts with the sound. Music comes first, then I build the visuals and colors around it to match the feeling of the song.

If someone listens to Chocolate, candy, bread, love, and dreams! at the end of a long day, what do you hope they feel? And what are you looking forward to with this comeback?

 I hope my song feels like a small message of comfort, like saying, “You did well today.” I want people to take a break, enjoy a bit of sweetness in life, and find warmth through my music, even in the middle of all the hardships.

And finally, when do we get to see Jade perform live in India? I know many listeners here would love to experience your music in person, including me.

I’d truly love that. If I ever get the chance, I’d be so happy to meet my listeners in India and connect with them through music.
