K-Event: Simply K-Pop CON-TOUR India

Well, Simply K-Pop Con-Tour is a K-Pop music show that exclusively airs on Arirang TV and their YouTube channel. Several renowned K-Pop artists from around the world interact with their fans onstage and entertain them with performances of some of their most popular songs. K-Pop fans around the world get up close with this unique music program.

Cheoyongmu: A Traditional Korean Dance-Form

Khiroda Singh Khuntia, Rourkela, Odisha: South Korea, a country which is famous for not only its entertainment, music, food, beauty, and fashion but also for its long preserved diverse tradition and culture. South Korea is now dominating the world due to the ever-increasing popularity of K-Pop and K-Dramas; and also has a fascinating history of its own traditional dances and music forms. Many K-Fans who love K-Dramas probably have seen the historical dramas such as Hwarang, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, and Hwang Jini; and might have found out how the traditional dance-forms were performed back then. Traditional dance-forms like Cheoyongmu, Seungmu, Hallyangmu, and Buchaechum which were beautifully performed in royal courts and among masses since the ancient times, are preserved and performed even today.

Korean Wave popularly called as “Hallyu” (한류) has gained massive popularity across the world in recent times and India is no different to it. A rapid boom in India can be witnessed in the recent years with rising popularity of K-Pop and K-Dramas among the youth and teenagers that is eventually leading to their interest in other aspects of Korean Culture. The pandemic seems to have also contributed for the shift of people towards consumption of Korean entertainment at large. It is now valid to say that most fans in India are thrilled by it and wish to at least witness everything they see on screen in real life. To sum it up, it is that every Korean wave fan wishes to visit Korea once in their lifetime. Taking this undeniable point into notice, Korea Tourism Organisation and The Hindu presented an online event discussion on the topic “The Rising Korean Wave in India and Its Influence on Post- Pandemic Travel to South Korea.”

Seollal: Korean New Year

Ekta Aggarwal, New Delhi: Seollal or Eumnyeok Seollal/음력 설랄 is South Korea’s most popular and important holiday. It is a traditional festival to celebrate the first day of the Korean lunar calendar. The celebration of Seollal lasts for 3 days; beginning the day before, the New year’s day itself, and concluding the next day. Korean New Year usually falls on the second new moon in January or February. In the case of a lunar leap month, the new year falls on the third new moon. Seollal is a public holiday in South Korea; during this period, several enterprises are closed down and a paid vacation is offered for families to spend time together and visit their relatives.
