K-Drama Review: Cinderella and Four Knights

Riya Choudhary, Delhi

Cinderella and Four Knights is a story of a young woman (Park So-dam) who is given the opportunity to live at the mansion of a rich chaebol and earn some money to attend the college. The chaebol’s three handsome grandsons (Jung Il-woo, Ahn Jae-hyun and Lee Jung-shin) live in the mansion along with a handsome and well-disciplined bodyguard (Choi Min).

Park So-dam plays the role of the main female-lead as Eun Ha-won in this K-drama. Her character’s personality is the perfect blend of a sweet, cheerful and strong-headed girl. She does not accept sympathy from any of the guys and stays firm on all her decisions. Ha-won’s stepmom neither accepts her nor helps her out in any situation. To overcome her hardships, she works part-time to pay for her college fees. Park So-dam looks absolutely beautiful and adorable in this role. She brightens every scene with her captivating smile. Moreover, she shares an effortless chemistry with all the male leads in this drama. Her compatibility with each guy comes off very naturally such that it really helps in bringing out the best in each one of them.

Jung Il-woo has done an amazing job by playing the role of Kang Ji-woon. The character of Ji-woon is of a casual and quiet guy. It takes a while for him to open up with others. With Il-woo’s acting skills, this drama surely is a pleasure to watch. I really enjoyed Jung Il-woo’s role in this drama, and he definitely became my favourite character.

Ahn Jae-hyun plays the second lead role as Kang Hyun-min. He is known as the playboy of the group. Also, he is the one who gets Ha-won involved with his family in the first place. Overall the character of Kang Hyun-min is a little stiff and awkward in the beginning, however, his interactions with Ha-won make his on-screen presence more enjoyable among viewers, as he gets to spend a lot of time with her in the drama.

Lee Jung-shin plays the character of Kang Seo-woo. He has the sweetest personality out of all the guys due to his jolly nature in the group. As a popular singer in the drama, he remains busy with his schedule. However, it doesn’t take long for him to fall for Ha-won, and no wonder the two of them certainly have a cute chemistry. The way he sings the OST ‘Confession’ is mesmerizing.

Lee Yoon-sung (Choi Min) plays the role of a resident bodyguard in this drama. He has a hard time letting himself loose and having fun, but Ha-won is capable of bringing out that side of his personality as well. He is very loyal to the Kang family and does his best to look after them.

Son Na-eun plays the role of the second female lead as Park Hye-ji in this already confusing loved story. Ji-woon has romantic feelings for her for a long while, though she only has her eyes on Hyun-min who never reciprocates her feelings and never treats her anything other than a friend. However, at last, she gets her own happy ending! With whom? For that you need to watch the drama!

I really loved the overall progression of Ji-woon and Ha-won’s relationship. Their relationship grows deeper and stronger with time as they go from bickering to becoming more than friends. Personally, I loved the pairing between this couple more as compared to others. Even the OST ‘Only One’ sung by BTOB stirs so many emotions. It still gives me goosebumps. I think it is a perfect song that can be played between two people who get along well. Jung Il-woo and Park So-dam have this wonderful and easy-going chemistry between them throughout the drama, that I just couldn’t get enough of it.

Apart from an amazing storyline, Cinderella and the Four Knights also has wonderful OSTs that were utilized very well. I immensely enjoy all of the songs in this drama and it makes me so happy that they are played frequently. It really helps in setting up fun, romantic, as well as a heartwarming atmosphere. Some of my favourite OSTs are For you [2 version by BTOB], My romeo [Jessi], Confession [Sung by SinB {GFRIEND} & Lee Jung-shin], Without you [Yoon Bomi {APINK}], I believe [Younha].

Overall, for me ‘Cinderella and the Four Knights’ is such a fun drama to watch, that I can watch it again on a cozy day with a hot cup of coffee, some snacks, especially for the sheer joy of enjoying the OSTs and romantic but cute scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the life of our poor Cinderella girl turn around as she gets to live in a fancy house and draws the affection of not one but four handsome guys. Overall, it is a drama that involves developing an understanding of relationships and love while overcoming hardships of life. The story often gets unpredictable with several cliffhangers at the end of some episodes that lead to new twists in the life of Eun Ha-won. Have you seen this drama? Let me know your thoughts on this! Shhhhh! Don’t reveal the story! You can see this drama on Netflix!
