K-POP INDIA CONTEST 2023: BHOPAL REGIONALS

Riya Choudhary, New Delhi

K-Pop India Contest, now in its thirteenth successful year, has become a momentous occasion in the Indian K-Pop community. It offers talented young individuals a chance to showcase their captivating singing, and dancing performance competence, while also providing a platform for K-Pop enthusiasts to come together and celebrate their mutual love for Korean music. During the pandemic, this contest took place online. However, this contest is back with a intriguing thrill as an offline event to showcase the vocal and dancing skills of Indian K-Pop fans.

Bhopal Regional Round of the K-Pop India Contest 2023 was conducted on 18th June 2023 (Sunday) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Polytechnic College (Polytechnic Chourah) Shyamala Hills, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh from 1:00 p.m. IST onwards. It was organised by Madhya Pradesh Korean Fan Club and Korean Cultural Centre India, presented by LG.

Madhya Pradesh Korean Fan Club has been organising the Bhopal regional round since 2019. This year amidst the contest, they hosted Audience Choice Awards and Face-Off challenges for the audience. With a cultural delight, they introduced a Korean culture theme booth where several people earned a venture to wear hanbok and experience Korean culture closer, capturing the energy and excitement that unfolded during the event.

Here is an excerpt of the Bhopal Regional Round organiser Monica Sankule (Regional Admin of Madhya Pradesh Korean Fan Club) regarding their experience of organising this event:

“Over the past six years, I have gained extensive experience in organising K-pop contests, which has allowed me to develop a deep understanding of the unique needs of K-pop enthusiasts. Throughout this time, I have been actively involved in planning, coordinating, and executing numerous successful events, creating memorable experiences for participants and attendees with my team in Bhopal.

As an organiser, my primary goal has always been to showcase the talent and passion of K-pop fans while providing them with a platform to express themselves.

I have carefully crafted contest formats that cater to diverse skill sets, allowing participants to showcase their singing, dancing, and overall performance abilities.

Furthermore, I have actively utilised social media platforms and online communities to promote and generate excitement around the contests. By leveraging these digital channels, I have been able to reach a wider audience, attract more participants, and cultivate a vibrant and enthusiastic K-pop community.

These experiences have solidified my commitment to fostering the growth and appreciation of K-pop and have inspired me to continue organising dynamic and impactful events for K-pop enthusiasts in the future.

My team have experience in organising a K-pop contest with the Madhya Pradesh Korean Fan Club. Together, they worked diligently to create an exciting and engaging event for K-pop enthusiasts in our region. From conceptualizing the contest to coordinating logistics, they ensured a seamless execution.

The contest featured various categories, including dance covers, singing, and fan art, Korean culture, providing participants with a platform to showcase their passion for K-pop. Through effective teamwork and collaboration, we successfully created a memorable experience that brought together K-pop fans and celebrated their love for Korean music and culture.”
