First of all, we kindly request you to introduce yourself to our readers and audience.

Hello! I am Jake, and my Korean name is Jaeil Cha from South Korea. I did my graduation in Cosmetic Chemistry. I was born in Seoul, but now I live in Incheon, South Korea.

Could you please share your journey of falling in love with India and the Indian culture?

I met my first Indian friend 2 years ago, and since then I started meeting more and more Indian friends. There are many reality shows in Korea where Korean people travel to India, and they show on TV. I have always been watching that and many things on YouTube. I also watched many things about Shiva God and what it looks like. Also, my friends keep telling me many things, so I always get mesmerized.

What do you find most fascinating about Indian customs and traditions?

The things which I love the most are food and clothes. However, many Koreans will not like the taste because they are not used to it. But many like it as well, and I am one of them. I love Indian food, and the clothes are so colourful and look so cool. I love wearing kurtas and those long jacket-type kurtas; I forgot the name, but I always keep posting on my Instagram wearing them.

An amalgamation of Korea and India; what does this interesting and creative term KODIA mean to you?

I heard about InKo, which means Indian and Korean. But since I am Korean, I wanted to keep Korea first because I am a citizen of that country first. And I wanted to make it mean that Korea is making something for Indians, so that’s why KODIA.

What inspired you to focus on creating cosmetics for all skin types, especially for Indian skin?

As I told you, I have many Indian friends, but they always struggle with finding the cosmetics which suit them the best. Also, Korea is known for skin care. So, why not make it specifically for Indians? Apart from BTS and K-POP, I wanted people to know more about Korea.

What are some of the challenges you have faced while creating cosmetics, especially for Indian skin and how have you overcome them?

The thing that I needed to make many samples for Indian people to try and test the samples. But still, I worked on weekends till 9 pm or 10 pm to make it possible.

What similarities or differences have you observed between Korean and Indian beauty routines?

I think there is no difference. Everyone takes care of their skin according to their own pocket and needs. But yes, one thing would be every night sheet mask. Most girls in Korea use sheet masks every day before sleeping.

What motivated you to launch a beauty, cosmetic and personal care brand in India, and what are your goals for the brand?

I always wanted to live in India and, always wanted to do something from my side which connects India and Korea. So, this was my way to make a bridge between the two countries. This way, I can live in India as well. Ha-ha.

Could you share some insights into the unique ingredients or formulations your products offer?

I cannot share it now, but I can tell that I used all the possible formulations to treat acne and keeping in mind the hot weather of India, I gave stress on Spf. Also, the trend of multi-balm in Korea is well known. You can see it in K-Dramas and everywhere. But I saw that the ones being sold are costly for most of the girls in India (the Korean ones) and also very oily for Indian Skin. So, I formulated the best for Indian skin, and also it goes with the trend.

What sets your brand apart from others in the Indian market?

There are many things. Like there are patented raw materials used, EWG standards come with the trend of K-POP and K-dramas so that everyone can feel the vibes shown in the K-dramas without being concerned about their skin because it’s for Indians.

How do you balance your role as a social media influencer, cosmetic researcher and entrepreneur?

Working hard is the key.

What advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs who plan to expand their business globally?

Think= build= work = think = take risks = plan = Go for it!

Could you share any memorable experience/moment for you during your visit/stay in India?

Pani Puri! Haha!  And the best thing PEOPLE OF INDIA!

What message would you like to convey to potential customers in India who are curious about your beauty, cosmetic and personal care brand?

I understand the diversity of beauty needs across India, and we’re committed to offering a wide range of products that cater to various skin types, tones, and concerns. From traditional beauty rituals to modern skincare innovations, our brand celebrates the richness of Indian beauty culture. What an incredibly heartwarming interview! 🇮🇳🤝🇰🇷 I’ve been following Jake on Instagram for a while, and his love for Indian culture feels so genuine—it’s not just for the ‘likes.’ I love the term ‘KODIA’ and how he’s prioritizing making K-beauty accessible and suitable for Indian skin tones. Often, Korean products can be a bit too dewy or heavy for our humid climate, so hearing that a professional researcher is specifically formulating for our weather and skin types is a game-changer! I can’t wait to try the multi-balm he mentioned. Thank you, Deena, for this lovely insight into the man behind the ‘Pyara’ brand! ✨”
