5 Best Songs of SEVENTEEN You Must Listen

Mansi Bisht, Delhi

SEVENTEEN, a K-pop band that debuted in 2015 has become a world-famous group with their hit album releases year after year. They are considered to be ‘self-producing’ idols since they are heavily involved in songwriting, music production, and choreographing. There are 13 members in the group: S.Coups (Leader), Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, THE 8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino. The group performs as one and is divided into three units, Hip Hop Unit, Vocal Unit, and Performance Unit. Let’s look at some of their best songs, that you must listen to:

Kidult

This Korean ballad is the fifth track on SEVENTEEN’s seventh mini album, Heng:garæ. The song beautifully encapsulates the pains of growing up. It talks about how when growing up and becoming an adult, one tends to lose the kid inside them. They are supposed to handle everything and be strong and sorted, but this song says that it is okay to cry like a kid. The lyrics in the second verse remark that it might seem to people that they are immature or wasting their time, but they are finding their value in those times. Looking over the dark times and painting the world with their pure white heart is what matters the most.

In the pre-chorus, “I’m here like the child I am; But where did he hide?; To you in which every day is more brilliant than sorrow,” the message of the song becomes clear where they are finding their inner child and are trying to bring comfort to their adult self. It is important to fully embrace both your childhood and adult selves to truly live the life that is meant for you. The vocals elevate the song to another level.

Smile Flower

Smile Flower was the last track on their album Going Seventeen and holds a special place in Carats’ (their fandom) hearts. The song was written by Woozi with Carats in mind about being hopeful even if SEVENTEEN and Carat go their separate ways in the future. As described in the music video, Woozi talks about the existence of good destinies, and even though they are happy now, they sometimes think about a time when they might not be together. In those times, he wants Carats to smile whenever and wherever they are.

The music video visits all the beautiful memories of SEVENTEEN: singing in the concert, getting their rings, practicing, and playing around becomes the perfect montage for an emotional yet hopeful song. The lyrics talk about the comfort they feel with their fans since they can laugh and cry with them. With more and more love they receive, they become more anxious about the separation if it were ever to happen. In the chorus, they talk about how they don’t want the bond to end and wish to be together on every road of life. The song ends with, “I’ll be the spring to your smile” signifying that just like spring is the reason for flowers blooming, they will be the reason for Carats’ smile blooming on the face.

Circles

This song is a B-side track, can be found on SEVENTEEN 4th Album Repackage SECTOR 17 and is a sad piano ballad. According to the songwriter, Woozi, this song is what he wanted to tell the members, Wonwoo, himself, and Carats. The song starts with feeling lost, not knowing what to do, and days when even talking feels like a burden. On such days, the lyrics advise us to find comfort within songs.

The most poetic lyrics in the chorus speak the message of the song, “It’s gonna be okay, like the hands on the clock; They’ll go in circles back to their places.” Even after all the hardships, all the difficult times, and all the dark times, in the end, everything is going to be okay. The pieces will fall into their places just like how hands on the clock return to their place. The song hits even more towards the end when it ends with only Woozi’s voice without any instrumental track.

The special video released by Seventeen a few months back featuring Carats and Seventeen makes up for the perfect video showcasing their relationship with each other and their fandom. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it has become one of the songs in SEVENTEEN’s discography which can move any Carats’ to tears.

Pretty U

The title track of the album Love & Letter is a fun pop song to dance along with. Just like the title of the album, it talks about young love and seems like a letter where the protagonist is trying to express their feelings to their partner. The lyrics weave into a beautiful story where the person struggles to tell their partner how pretty they are but fails to find the right words. The chorus goes back to the want to confess without saying the three words, ‘I like you’ rather saying the three words, ‘You are pretty’.

It is a fun, lighthearted song that gave SEVENTEEN their first win on Show Champion and since then has become a special song for the team and fans alike. The choreography also turned many heads with the sofa being used as a prop on all stages. According to Hoshi, a member as well as choreographer of the song, “It represents the dance musical genre” with smooth movements and lively expressions.

Beautiful

This song finds itself on the album Going Seventeen. It celebrates the little inconsequential joys of everyday life. The lyrics indicate the message that being with someone whom you love can make your world shine even brighter with daily mundane things. The pre-chorus lyrics, “In some ways my every day; Seems the same; But when I’m with you; it’s special” signifies how even when the everyday routine is the same, it becomes extraordinary with the person you love. The bridge repeats the theme of the song that the world is filled with beautiful things and love is one such thing. It gives the message to cherish your present and everyday life instead of waiting for big things to happen. It has become one of the songs that fans anticipate in SEVENTEEN’s concert.

I’ve been a fan of SEVENTEEN since 2023, I know it’s a short time but still I’ve learned so much about the members, their songs, their lives everything and tbh now seventeen feels like family to me. kidult is one of my favourite song. The lyrics, the meaning behind these lyrics, instrument everything is so great in this song. This song never fails to make my cry. This article is amazing

  48. Kanak says:

I love that this article captures not just the hits, but the feels behind the music 💜✨. SEVENTEEN has this way of sounding like a story – like “Don’t Wanna Cry” hits you right in the chest, and “VERY NICE” just makes you grin. It’s the kind of group whose songs become memories over time, not just tunes you listen to once.

This piece beautifully captures SEVENTEEN’s emotional range and artistry. From the healing comfort of “Kidult” and “Circles” to the warmth of “Smile Flower” and the youthful joy of “Pretty U” and “Beautiful,” it highlights why their music resonates so deeply with Carats worldwide.
