  49. cheerfully85bdf848be says:

“This is such a refreshing and beautifully written travel guide! While most tourists gravitate toward the neon lights of Seoul or the beaches of Busan, this article does a fantastic job of proving why Mokpo is the ‘Jewel of the South’ that everyone needs on their 2026 bucket list.
The way you described the Yudal Mountain Fortress really captured the historical gravity of the Joseon Dynasty. It’s a great reminder that Mokpo isn’t just a scenic port; it’s a living museum. I was especially interested in the Mokpo Modern History Museum—did you know the Building No. 1 was actually the former Japanese Consulate and even served as a filming location for the K-drama Hotel Del Luna? The red-brick architecture is so iconic!
I also love the mention of the Mokpo Marine Cable Car. At 3.23km, it’s one of the longest in Korea, and the ‘Crystal Cabin’ with the glass floor is an absolute must-try for that adrenaline rush over the sea. For any foodies reading, I’d highly recommend trying the ‘Mokpo 9 Flavors’ while at the Fish Market—specifically the thin-legged octopus (nakji) or the fermented skate (hongeo) for the truly brave!
As for the question at the end: outside of Mokpo, my favorite city to visit has to be Gyeongju. Much like Mokpo, it feels like stepping back in time, but with the ancient Silla tombs (Tumuli) instead of coastal fortresses.
Thank you, Subhangi and Prachi, for highlighting these hidden gems. Mokpo is officially moving to the top of my itinerary!”
