Everyone must have heard the song Do It Like That by TXT and Jonas Brothers, which absolutely went viral, right? But what is it that makes a song/artist popular?

The K-pop industry is at its peak around the world right now, and if one says it’s because of their catchy music, amazing artists, and their engaging aesthetics, they are not wrong. While the music pulls you in, it’s their meaningful lyrics that capture the heart. 

This, I believe, is the reason why K-pop is so popular amongst its listeners. Today, I am going to talk about the five songs that touched my heart by none other than 4th Generation K-pop sensation, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, aka TXT.

Life is a tough journey, and at times, all one needs is a break, so we wish for a magical land where we can escape, take a breather, and believe that all our dreams can come true. This meaningful message behind the lyrics is why 9와 4분의 3 승강장에서 너를 기다려 (Run Away) is one of my favorite songs by TXT and the one that turned me into their fan (MOA). This song makes me feel that I am not alone; I am in a dreamland where I can take a break, and in the end, it’s all going to be okay. The lines that I relate to the most are-

It feels like everybody’s happy but me,

It hurts more when I smile than when I cry,

Though I try to hold it back every day,

Though I try to hang in there,

But it’s not working that well, so I need your hand now,

In moments like this, when tears fill your eyes,

Anti-Romantic [The Chaos Chapter- Freeze (2021)]

This song is perfect for those jaded in love. Being deeply in love with someone and then losing them leaves one not only heartbroken, but also with doubts — whether they can ever truly love again, turning one into an anti-romantic.

While our hearts do long to love and to be loved, we try to avoid any kind of romantic feelings in fear of getting hurt again. With its soulful melody and harmonious vocals, Anti-Romantic is the perfect mood for our feelings. The lyrics that I like are-

It’s a known fact that empty rooms are the noisiest, and sometimes, when we are left alone with our thoughts, they turn dark; our mind rings with unwanted questions and doubts, making us feel like we are trapped in a repeated circle of life. Tinnitus by TOMORROW X TOGETHER expresses these feelings best with lyrics like-

Even if I cover my ears, the daze gets louder

The empty sound is deafening

As if submerged in a fishbowl, the bruises and tinnitus fills it up

Life is always going to be challenging and unpredictable; things not going our way can make us sad and desperate to leave this vicious circle of life. But the secret to living a happy life is the live in the present and treat this grueling yet beautiful life as a process and not a destination.

Living for our dreams instead of following what others say, enjoying our present instead of rushing towards the future, some might call it foolish, but at least we would be happy. This message behind the song Happy Fools by TXT ft Coi Leray touched my heart-

Our minds are always filled with various thoughts and emotions, constantly working overtime. Even though we maintain a calm visage, we might be breaking on the inside. People nowadays often look happy in their pictures, but the reality might be different for some. All our emotions are always in a whirlpool, and to control them, we first must learn to accept them.

We need to accept our past, our present, our feelings of anguish, regret, and hurt so that we can embrace ourselves tomorrow; because at the end of the day, we are the only ones who make and break ourselves. The song 물수제비 (Skipping Stones) in the album ‘Freefall’ has become my instant favorite because of such meaningful lyrics-

The water that swallowed up our wounds will calm down someday

Because you will have a wide embrace
