K-Drama Review: Memorist

Writer: Andrea Fernandez (Kerala, Kollam, India)

Editor: Khushi Vaid (Delhi, India)

Memorist is an action, thriller and supernatural-based drama. The drama narrates the story of a young detective who possesses the power to read the memories of people and the challenges he faces in using the power. The role of a young detective is played by Yoo Seung-ho as Dong Baek, and the female lead role is played by Lee Se-young as Han Sun-mi.

Dong Baek is a youth who claims to the world that he can read a person memory just by a touch and after his declaration about his power many experimental tests are conducted to prove the accuracy of his statement and the results revealed that it was true and it was made known to public which made Dong Baek a celebrity among the public because of his looks and his power, he gained attention.

A few years later, Dong Baek is appointed as a police officer to solve various cases and crimes, utilising his ability to read memories. Still, Dong Baek is an officer who is reckless and is a person who quickly loses his temper, and due to such behaviour, he has been kept on watch by his superiors.

Han Sun-mi is a young crime profiler, and she has solved many difficult cases with her intellect. And due to her amazing performance, she was promoted to the post of superintendent at a young age. Han Sun-mi is a person who solves cases with determination and wants to bring justice to the victims by punishing the offenders and lawbreakers. Han Sun-mi had witnessed her father’s death when she was a kid, and that’s why she chose to be a crime profiler to punish the criminal.

Dong Baek and Han Sun-mi were summoned together to solve a case. At first, Han Sun-mi did not have a good impression of Dong Baek because she thought that Dong Baek was just showing off with his power and was a person who was seeking attention. Dong Baek, due to his character, did not have a good relationship with his colleagues, and he did have support from his immediate superior and his best friend, as well as his junior.

Even though Dong Baek had the power of reading memories of people, the more power he used, he became weaker in his health, and he could also feel the pain of people while reading their memories. People at times feared Dong Baek being close to them because of his power to read their memories, and at times, people tried to avoid him.

Dong Baek and two officers were the trio that kept entertaining the viewers in a few instances, and the friendship and trust between the three are really seen in the drama. Dong Baek and Han Sun-mi work together on the case of the eraser. The Eraser is a serial killer, similar to Dong Baek, who has the power to erase people’s memories, thus the name “Eraser”. The Eraser, in his view on justice, punishes the wrongdoers in his own way, and the problem that Dong Baek and Han Sun-mi face during the investigation of this case is that the witnesses of the case do not have any memory of the murder that happened.

The memory of the witness at the time of the murder was being erased by the Eraser. The first appearance of the Eraser was seen, punishing a wrongdoer during a gathering.

Dong Baek is not only challenged by the wits of the Eraser but also by other corrupt politicians and officers who use their law to control the weak, and during the investigation, both  Dong Baek and Han Sun-mi were able to connect the events with their parents’ deaths. The end of the drama is a really unexpected twist.

Overall, the drama was really amazing, with the action and power of Dong Baek, and how Han Sun-mi’s bold and intelligent character provides great support to Dong Baek during their chase of the Eraser. Yoo Seung-ho as “Dong Baek” was so perfect in the role, and the action scenes were just so awesome. I really loved how Dong Baek did things recklessly, in his own way, and how he used his power to solve various cases and punish the wrongdoers.

Memorits the name itself justifying the drama. The review is so good expressing dramas perspective and special power that male lead and villian of the drama have for now I’m like whom is better the detective or the criminal as he also not wrong in his place as he killing wrongdoers or corrupted persons but taking law in hands is wrong thing as he can complain or take any law action against them. the story of this drama is totally like the indian film “Gabbar is back” curios to watch this drama adding in my watch list.

Woah, The story sounds so interesting. The way the story has been explained is enough to pique the interest of the readers without revealing too much. In usually stories like these , the one with such a power keeps it a secret but in this drama the opposite happened. Not to mention the villain having the power of erasing the memories of people while the protagonist can feel the memories. It’s packed with thrill ,suspense and plot twists. Adding this to my watch list

This review actually hits the nerve of why Memorist works — it’s not just powers and thriller gimmicks, it’s the clash between justice, ego, trauma, and morality. You highlighted that well. Dong Baek isn’t a perfect hero, and the Eraser isn’t a plain villain — that moral grey zone is what makes this drama addictive. Good job pointing out how both leads carry emotional baggage that drives the story instead of just “cool abilities.”
Honestly, this write-up made me want to rewatch the drama just to pick up those character layers again. Solid work.

This review provides a comprehensive and insightful overview of Memorist. The explanation of the characters, especially Dong Baek’s abilities and Han Sun-mi’s analytical strength, was very well presented. The connection to the “Eraser” case was described in a clear and engaging manner. Overall, the review effectively highlights the depth and intensity of the drama. Excellent work.

This looks like something new with all the memory reading and erasing. Such a fresh concept after all the cliches. Seems like it would be a good watch as I love thriller and specially detective and crime shows!

This review does a great job of capturing the suspense and emotional weight of Memorist. The way the article explores the drama’s themes of memory, morality, and justice really highlights what makes it stand out. It makes me want to watch the show now, paying close attention to how characters and plot twists are handled. Excellent breakdown overall!

That sounds like a genuinely gripping drama! I love the concept of the detective, Dong Baek, whose powerful gift comes with a physical toll. The contrast with the brilliant, skeptical profiler Han Sun-mi and the introduction of the mysterious ‘Eraser’ serial killer with a counter-power must make for an incredibly intense and complex thriller. Yoo Seung-ho seems perfectly cast as the reckless, action-oriented hero.

  9. Surbhi Pandey says:

Memorist kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! The plot twists were insane—just when I thought I knew who the ‘Eraser’ was, the show threw another curveball.

I loved this review of Memorist. The best part is the core dynamic, a detective who can instantly read memories by touch (Dong Baek) forced to team up with a genius, by-the-book profiler (Han Sun-mi) to catch a serial killer who can erase memories. That central conflict is what makes it such a unique and intense thriller.

  11. Kanak says:

I watched Memorist a while back and honestly, the way they mix mystery, emotions, and character depth is just addictive 🤯. Dong-A’s ability to read minds adds such a cool twist, but what really got me was how the show balanced the thriller bits with real human moments. Definitely one of those dramas I’d recommend to friends who like something smart and heartfelt 🎬💭

  12. TM says:

Memorist’s storyline sounds so cool although I’ve not watched this one yet but Dong baek’s powers to read people’s memories just by a touch & him losing health because of power using in reading people’s memories. The twist of “The eraser” looks like his clone. Adding to my watchlist. Thanks for recommending it 👍

“I’ve been seeing Memorist on my recommendations for a while but wasn’t sure if I should start it. Your breakdown of the characters, especially the trio of officers, convinced me! I love a good detective story with a supernatural twist. Adding this to my watchlist for the weekend.
You perfectly captured why this drama is so addictive. The moral grey area of the Eraser vs. Dong Baek’s reckless justice is what makes it stand out from typical police procedurals. Can’t wait to see which drama you review next!” thanks for the detailed review!”

  14. Jayati Vyas says:

Loved this review! Memorist really stands out with its supernatural twist on crime and justice, and Dong Baek’s power adds so much depth to the investigation aspect. The Eraser storyline was genuinely gripping and unpredictable.
