L.U.C.A- The Beginning is a thriller, action, and supernatural-based drama. The drama narrates the story of a man who possesses supernatural power and tries to find his past, and there are people who are chasing after him in order to acquire his power. The male lead is Kim Rae-won as “Ji-oh”, and the female lead is Lee Da-hee as “Ha Gu-reum”.
Ji-oh is a human who was created in a lab, and while creating Ji-oh, the scientists combined various DNA of animals, including the electric eel, bat, jellyfish, and fly. Ji-oh was the only successful experiment. Ji-oh somehow escapes from the lab and gets to the real world, and he is chased by the cult leaders and the lab workers who want his power.
Ji-oh tries to find his past and struggles to adapt to other people because of his abilities. He can summon electricity and release it from his body. When Ji-oh was a child, he caused a fire in the orphanage where he was staying. As a result, he was forced to leave and survived with a friend from the orphanage, using his powers to stay alive. One major limitation of his power is that his memory cells burn whenever he releases electricity, causing him to forget who he is and what has happened to him. Ji-oh knows that people are chasing him, but their identities remain unknown.
Ha Gu-reum is a female detective investigating her parents’ disappearance. When she was a child, her parents left home and never returned, which led her to spend her life searching for them. While working as a detective, Ha Gu-reum meets Ji-oh, who saves her when she is hit by a truck. She then remembers meeting Ji-oh in her childhood and recalls that her parents had left home with him. This makes her suspect that Ji-oh may be responsible for her parents’ disappearance.
After saving Ha Gu-reum, Ji-oh’s identity is revealed, and he is once again chased by cult leaders, police officers, and people from the Human Tech lab. He has no place to hide and no one he can trust.
Ha Gu-reum eventually decides to help Ji-oh uncover the truth behind his involvement in her parents’ disappearance. Ji-oh starts staying at Ha Gu-reum’s apartment, where she questions him about past events and realizes that he has no memory of them. Gradually, she begins to trust him and later discovers that her father was involved with the lab. Ha Gu-reum is betrayed by her colleagues and framed for a scientist’s death, forcing both her and Ji-oh to flee from the police. Ji-oh suggests a safe place where no one can find them, and during this time, they fall in love and temporarily forget about the world around them.
A few months later, Ji-oh and Ha Gu-reum become parents to a baby girl who possesses the same powers as Ji-oh. When the cult leader and lab workers learn about the child, they begin chasing both the baby and Ji-oh. The cult leader wants Ji-oh’s DNA to create thousands of superhumans who could rule over others, while the lab workers want to capture Ji-oh to sell his cells for profit. During their escape, Ji-oh finally discovers who he was and how he had met Ha Gu-reum during childhood. Ha Gu-reum also learns that Ji-oh is innocent.
I really loved L.U.C.A.: The Beginning, because of its strong supernatural elements and intense action. The chemistry between the lead actors was excellent.

I didn’t expect to get so hooked 😅 The mystery behind L.U.C.A. kept pulling me in -the tension, the twists, and how the characters slowly unravel everything made it hard to stop watching. Definitely one of those dramas that sticks with you after the final episode 🎬✨
Love how this drama dives into bio-experimentation, power, and survival.
The stakes stay high from start to finish and the character dynamics sell it.
I’m intrigued — might binge this next.
L.U.C.A: The Beginning, kept me hooked with its dark concept and emotional depth. Ji-oh’s struggle between power and identity felt heartbreaking, and the bond he forms with Ha Gu-reum added warmth to the chaos. The mix of action, mystery, and tragedy makes this drama intense and unforgettable.
"What an intense and detailed review, Andrea! I’ve been on the fence about starting L.U.C.A.: The Beginning, but the way you explained the science behind Ji-oh’s powers really sold it for me. The idea of combining DNA from electric eels and jellyfish is such a cool sci-fi concept, though it’s so tragic that his memory cells burn up every time he uses his abilities 😭.
I also appreciated how you highlighted Ha Gu-reum’s perspective—it’s rare to find a female lead who is so driven by her own family mystery while being such a strong protector. The transition from them running alone to protecting their baby adds such a high-stakes emotional layer. Thanks to you and Divya for another great recommendation! Definitely moving this to the top of my watchlist. ⚡🧬🎬"
L.U.C.A.: The Beginning sounds so intense and thrilling! I love stories with a mix of supernatural powers, action, and mystery, and the idea of Ji-oh struggling with his memory while being chased adds so much suspense. The chemistry between Ji-oh and Ha Gu-reum seems amazing, and I’m curious to see how their relationship and the baby’s powers unfold. Definitely adding this to my watchlist!
I haven’t watched this drama yet, but the concept sounds really gripping, especially the mix of supernatural powers and a mysterious past. Ji-oh’s struggle and the suspense around his identity make it feel intense and emotional. This definitely feels like a drama worth checking out soon.
I haven't watched the drama yet but it looks like very intense one. The concept of Ji-Oh's creation from animal's dna, electric eel , jellyfish etc. What a thrilling sci fi concept it is. Not Ha Gu-reum protecting him when her father was involved with lab thing. Thankyou for recommending this. Adding on my watchlist
