Over the past few years, K-Pop has grown remarkably by not only capturing the Asian markets, but has also established its recognition in the West as well. K-Pop has never restricted itself to the Korean language either since many K-Pop groups release multiple versions of their songs in different languages as well, such as in Chinese, Japanese, and English. Looking deeper into this, Japanese releases have by far captured significant spotlight being one of the biggest music markets in the world, accompanied by an interesting Korean-Japanese history.

Korean Wave popularly called as “Hallyu” (한류) has gained massive popularity across the world in recent times and India is no different to it. A rapid boom in India can be witnessed in the recent years with rising popularity of K-Pop and K-Dramas among the youth and teenagers that is eventually leading to their interest in other aspects of Korean Culture. The pandemic seems to have also contributed for the shift of people towards consumption of Korean entertainment at large. It is now valid to say that most fans in India are thrilled by it and wish to at least witness everything they see on screen in real life. To sum it up, it is that every Korean wave fan wishes to visit Korea once in their lifetime. Taking this undeniable point into notice, Korea Tourism Organisation and The Hindu presented an online event discussion on the topic “The Rising Korean Wave in India and Its Influence on Post- Pandemic Travel to South Korea.”
Riya Choudhary, Delhi: Lee Min-ho is one of the most famous actors in South Korea whose popularity has transcended globally. He was born on June 22, 1987, in Heukseok-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul. He is signed under MYM Entertainment IMX Inc. He is known for his charismatic and charming personality as he achieved his first major recognition for his portrayal of Gu Jun-pyo in the famous K-Drama, Boys Over Flowers that made him a household name not only in South Korea but also in the world. After that, he went on to act in several other popular dramas such as The Heirs, City Hunter, Legend of the Blue Sea and movies like Bounty Hunters and Gangnam Blues.
Riya Chaudhary, Delhi: K-Pop or Korean Pop is a music genre that originated in South Korea. It consists of a variety of popular music styles that covers mostly dance-pop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, hip-hop, R&B, etc. In India, the spread of Korean Wave, also known as Hallyu Wave, began in the early 2000s in the North East region and now it is spreading rapidly all over the country. By the persistent efforts of Korean Cultural Centre India, K-pop has marked its popularity and success in India through K-POP INDIA CONTEST, which takes place every year since 2013.
