“BLACKPINK in your area!”

Does it ring any bells? Absolutely! It is BLACKPINK, a revolutionary South Korean girl group band who has taken over the world! The South Korean company YG Entertainment’s famous Girl group K-Pop band debuted on August 8th, 2016 with four members. The group consists of rappers Lisa and Jennie; with vocalists Rosé and Jisoo. Their official fandom name is Blink. The members of the group come from different backgrounds hence there is more diversity in the group. Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé are Korean whereas Lisa is from Thailand.

The members of the group are multilingual which helps them in communicating with blinks from all around the world making it is easier for them to break the language barrier faced by many other groups. The group’s music falls under K-Pop, EDM, Hip-hop and Trap genres. As a group and individually the members too have managed to garner a huge following within South Korea as well as internationally.

The group since its debut has released two studio albums, three EPs, four single albums and three live albums in total with a new album “Born Pink” with the pre-release “Pink Venom” coming just along the way. The group debuted with their single album Square One which includes the songs Boombayah and Whistle.” Boombayah debuted on top of the Gaon digital chart while the other one became the group’s first No. 1 hit on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart. Both the songs were received well by their fans.

This success continued with the release of Square Two in November 2016. This album includes tracks like “Playing with fire” which became their second No.1 hit on Billboard and sold more than 2.5 million digital copies in South Korea. Their second single album Square Two peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and number 2 on the world albums chart. Again in 2017, the group released As if it’s your last which became their third song to reach 2,500,000 certified downloads in South Korea after ‘Whistle’ and ‘Playing with fire’ and their third number 1 hit on Billboard world digital song sales after Boombayah and Playing with fire.

The same year in August they made their Japanese debut with their EP Blackpink which featured Japanese versions of the group’s existing songs at that time. It was a commercial success and topped the Orion chart and sold over 80,000 copies in Japan itself. They released their first Korean EP, Square Up in June 2018 which debuted on top of the Gaon Album Chart. Their Korean EP peaked at number 40 on Billboard 200. “Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du” was their first song to enter the Billboard Hot 100. The single received Platinum certification in South Korea in April 2019.
