Gurugram’s food enthusiasts were treated to a delightful culinary experience on January 25th as Le Marche at South Point Mall hosted an exclusive Chef’s Table Korean Food Workshop. This event provided a unique chance to explore the vibrant and flavorful world of Korean cuisine, celebrated for its bold flavors and use of fermented ingredients, which have gained global popularity.

South Point Mall lies on Ardee City Road, Sector 52, Gurugram, Haryana 122022. It is easily accessible by public transport through the Rapid Metro and several bus routes. For the commuting folks, the mall offers enough parking space. The mall’s first floor houses Le Marche, a well-appointed retail space with a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Signature Delicacies

The chefs guided attendees through the process of creating their own signature dishes, which ranged from comforting Ramen bowls to tantalizing chilli garlic potatoes. The event provided a learning experience not only through tasting but also through the preparation of delectable dishes. Skilled chefs shared valuable insights, defining key ingredients and techniques that contribute to authentic Korean cooking, empowering everyone to recreate these dishes at home.

According to Chef Maree, a native of Manipur with eight years of experience in the kitchen, the idea of the dishes is inspired by their childhood days.

These are dishes I grew up with, he said. I used to browse for Korean recipes through YouTube videos, trying everything I could get my hands on.

When Le Marche contacted him and fellow chef Pawan about this workshop, they immediately agreed to prepare these popular dishes. Chef Pawan also contributed his expertise to the workshop, though the main interview focused on Chef Maree’s insights.

Mastering Flavors and Techniques

The chefs explained the process of creating a perfect ramen bowl. Chef Maree emphasized the importance of a rich and flavorful broth, which must balance savory and umami notes. He also underlined the use of fresh noodles and high-quality toppings. He jokingly suggested that listing all the ingredients would take up an entire interview and recommended a list on paper instead. The preparation of chilli garlic potatoes was also discussed as part of the workshop.

According to Chef Maree, blanching potatoes before frying gives them a crispy outside and fluffy inside. He also shared the recipe for his chili garlic sauce, a blend of gochujang, soy sauce, garlic, and sesame oil. The ramen bowl is a heartwarming noodle soup that has a deep infusion of spices. The egg topping and the bright emerald green of the onion sprinkled all around make the best out of any dish. The crisp texture of the potato in the chili garlic sauce contrasted with its golden-brown hue, enhancing its spicy/sweet flavor.

The Masterful Hands Behind Culinary Excellence: Chef Maree

This was the first public event for Chef Maree, and although he admitted to feeling a little nervous, he was very enthusiastic about sharing his passion for Korean food. The chefs and attendees alike enjoyed the experience, and attendees expressed enthusiasm for future Le Marche culinary events. One attendee remarked,

The ramen was absolutely delicious. I learned so much about Korean cooking.

Another exclaimed,

I cannot wait to try making the chili garlic potatoes at home.

  13. Now that I’ve started to learn cooking, these food workshops amaze me so much. It’s good to learn more and more about the flavors, and how to cook the proper way.
A little suggestion would be – to have vegetarian dishes in the workshop too. I missed so many workshops by famous cooks because they only prepared dishes with some kind of meat. A veg dish would cater more Indian audience!

I wish I could attend this event as a food lover I always try to explore different flavours of the world especially koream ramen, corndog, chili garlic potatoes and other vegetarian dishes. As a pure vegetarian I’m always wonder the dish doesn’t have any kind of non veg thing in it so this kind of workshop help to to try korean food because the chef cooking infront of me so I know what ingredients and sauces he put in the dish because of that I can eat it without regret as I tried japchae last year in Korean exhibition at yashobhoomi and experience war delightful.
