Pyun Young-soo, known by his stage name PERC%NT, is an artist whose music feels instantly warm and soulful, carrying a charm that lingers long after the song ends. With his smooth vocals and heartfelt storytelling, he has steadily built a name as one of Korea’s most refreshing singer-songwriters.
Whether it’s the tender touch of an OST, the energy of a live stage, or the intimacy of his own songs, he has a way of drawing listeners into his world. His sound feels personal yet universal, making it easy for fans to find a piece of themselves in his music.
In this Interview, let’s explore PERC%NT’s journey, creative process, and what fans can look forward to next.
Could you share how your journey into music began and what inspired you to pursue this path initially?
I’ve always been drawn to music since I was young. It was my favorite way to express emotions I couldn’t put into words. I started playing guitar and writing small melodies during high school, and that slowly turned into a real passion. I think the moment I realized music could connect people emotionally was when I knew I wanted to do this seriously.
Your stage name PERC%NT is so unique. Could you share the story behind it and what it represents for you?
When I first started out, I was really unsure about what name to choose. My real name, Young-soo, didn’t quite feel like it fit the style of music I was creating, especially since I was diving into R&B and hip-hop. I wanted something that captured the vibe of my music, so I started thinking about a new name. Eventually, I settled on % and then added the “PERC%NT” to make it unique and playful. It just felt right, and that’s how PERC%NT came to be.
People often find your music soulful, warm, and very feel-good. When you begin writing a new song, what kind of feeling or atmosphere do you try to create first?
I always try to find a story, an idea, or a key point first when I create a song. Because without that narrative, even though I can create endless chords or melodies, it would just end up as a simple tune without substance. So I put a lot of effort into uncovering that story or emotion. That’s why I find exploring, experiencing new things, and soaking in different environments so important—they really become the source of my music.
You’re not only a singer but also a songwriter and producer. Which part of the creative process excites you the most – writing lyrics, composing melodies, or producing the final sound?
They’re all connected, but producing is where I feel the most alive. That’s when I can shape the whole atmosphere — from how the vocals breathe to how the rhythm moves. But honestly, when all three come together perfectly, that’s the best feeling.
Mystic Entertainment’s LISTEN project was where many listeners discovered your music. What was it like being part of such a platform alongside other strong singer-songwriters?
So, first of all, I didn’t really consider the LISTEN project to be such a major project at the time, because, if I remember correctly, I was actually one of the second or third participants in the project. So, for me, it was just an honor to have the opportunity to release music, and that’s how “Weekend” was released for the first time. Because of that song, many people got to know me, and I’m really grateful for that project.
What were some of the biggest obstacles you’ve encountered in your music career so far, and how did you overcome them?
There were moments when I doubted myself — especially when things didn’t go as planned. But I learned that taking breaks and finding inspiration outside of music is just as important as working hard. Every challenge taught me patience and reminded me why I love doing this in the first place.
What can fans look forward to from you next? Are there any new projects, collaborations, or directions you’re excited to explore?
Lately, I’ve been working on as many new tracks as I can and taking part in a lot of projects as a songwriter. I’ve been putting a lot of effort into writing and exploring different ideas. But what I’m really focusing on right now is preparing something special for my 10th anniversary next year as PERC%NT. I want to try different things and create music that feels meaningful — something I can proudly share with everyone.
Could you share a message for the Indian fans who are discovering and enjoying your music?
First of all, it’s truly an honor that people in India are discovering and listening to my music. Moving forward, I’ll continue to work hard, creating and sharing more great music, and I would be very grateful for your continued support. Thank you!
Once again, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your precious time and for sharing insights about your journey. Thank you so much. On behalf of the entire team at Hallyuism, we wish you all the best for your future and lots of love from India!

I really enjoyed this interview! PERC%NT has such a distinct, smooth vibe, and it’s cool to learn that he chose his name to fit that specific R&B/Hip-hop style better than his real name.
Also, finding out that "Weekend" came from the LISTEN project makes so much sense—that track is a total classic. I can't wait to see what he prepares for his 10th anniversary next year! 🎶✨
I really enjoyed this read — PERC%NT’s story feels so genuine and grounded. You can tell he makes music not just to show off skills, but because he feels it in his bones 🎶💭. The way he talks about finding stories first and then building the song around that makes me want to go listen to his tracks again and see what emotions I catch this time.
You portrayed PERC%NT’s story in a heartfelt way that goes beyond just his music. His openness about growth, self-doubt, and creativity makes the piece feel genuine and impactful. It is really well written
