Switch It Up is a contemporary r&b and soul song by Jay B (formerly known as JB), who is also the leader of GOT7. The song was released on May 14, 2021, at 6 PM KST. It is composed by Jay B, Jay Park and Cha Cha Malone.

It is written by Jay B, Sokodomo and Jay Park. It is also Jay B‘s first release since he joined hip-hop and r&b label H1GHR Music. This song gives us a glimpse of the music style Jay B enjoys and wants to show his fans. It also features South Korean rapper Sokodomo.

The song starts with “I need a cha cha beat boy” which is usually heard in Cha Cha Malone produced songs. We can hear Jay B’s sultry and breathy vocals at the beginning that take us on a roller coaster ride. The song has bass-driven trap beats which are very familiar in Cha Cha Malone songs.

The Song starts with the chorus which is a plus point as it makes it more attractive. The song talks about the intimate passion of love. Official Live video clip was premiered on H1GHR MUSIC where we could see Jay B wandering through a dense forest in a calm and composed manner. I was among those 33k live viewers who were watching the premiere.

I would say that this song has definitely made me look deep inside Jay B’s voice. This song has a mature and sensual side to it and we can definitely see that through Jay B’s soulful voice and lyrics for the song. The chorus lyrics go like this:

“Baby I wanna switch it up

All I see is you right now

Like a wave

Baby ride my body

Girl, nice and calm

Baby I wanna switch it up

All I see is you right now

Like a wave

Baby ride my body

Girl, nice and calm

Tonight”

During the chorus when he sings in a falsetto that’s truly a delight to our ears. When the song reaches the verse you can feel the heat increasing. While singing the verse we can see him walking in the forest with some neon lights in the background which gives an aesthetic vibe to the song.

After the verse of Jay B, Sokodomo starts his fiery rap. His rap is full of a mid 90’s r&b style vibe. His voice is really contrasting to Jay B but that’s what makes it grand. We could also see some moves by Jay B after Sokodomo’s rap. Though the choreography was minimal fans enjoyed it very much.

Switch It Up reached No.1 on the iTunes Chart in 45 countries, including France, Hong Kong, New Zealand, India, Thailand, UAE and Brazil. It peaked at No.6 in the US and debuted No.1 on both the Worldwide and European iTunes Song Charts.

It also achieved over 250,000 Spotify streams in a single day. The song also charted on Genie Chart by debuting at the real-time chart at No.3. Keywords such as ‘JAY B SOLO SWITCH IT UP’ and ‘JAY B’ were trending on Twitter with lots of praises for the singer-songwriter.

From JJ Project to Jus2 to Def., Jay B has always shined and shown the fans his music style but with Switch It Up he showed his personalized music style and his want to connect with his fans on a deeper level.

With Switch It Up, he has shown his inner potential to the maximum level. We know Jay B is extremely talented person and he has shown his true skills and power with this energizing yet soothing song.

JAY B and other GOT7 members parted from JYP Entertainment back in January, though they’ve assured fans that they were not disbanding. JAY B had previously stated that he plans to keep the group together and wants to release at least one GOT7 album each year.

When Jay B was asked about his future plans he replied that he is working on an album right now and we can definitely expect it anytime soon.

As soon as the song started I knew it was my jam. Jay B’s voice along with the airy backing vocals made the song very smooth and soft to listen to. I would also take time to appreciate Jay B’s vocals that made me fall in love with his voice. Jay B’s voice was sweet as a cake and Sokodomo’s rap was cheery on top of it.

This song fits perfectly for a late-night club party with your lover. The song has no faults in it and is an absolute work of art. Fans are eagerly waiting for next album as a solo artist while listening to Switch It Up on repeat. Check out the song if you haven’t already.
