Here’s one of the shortest K-dramas you can watch: Splash Splash Love. Since most K-dramas have around 16 episodes or more, you might wonder, βIs it worth watching?β We promise you, it is!
Consisting of just two episodes, each approximately 60 minutes long, Splash Splash Love stars Kim Seul-gi and Yoon Doo-joon in a story filled with romance, humour, and time travel. The series was initially released in 10 short web episodes on Naver TV Cast before being broadcast as two episodes on MBC on 13 and 14 December 2015.

How much can you hate maths to actually travel back in time?
The drama begins with Danbi, played by Kim Seul-gi, a high school senior who is reluctant to take the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) because she struggles with maths. Wishing she could disappear, Danbi finds herself at a playground in the rain, standing in front of a puddle that transports her directly to the Joseon era.
What begins as an escape from exam stress soon becomes a journey of self-discovery. Danbi discovers that the subject she struggles with in school could actually make her valuable in an entirely different world.

A King in Need of Maths
There, King Lee Do, played by Yoon Doo-joon, rules a kingdom suffering from a severe drought. Bringing plenty of humour to the Joseon-era scenes, Danbi disguises herself as a eunuch, gradually developing a romantic connection with the king. She also befriends the lonely queen, played by Jin Ki-joo, who looks exactly like Danbi’s best friend back in the modern world.
Inspired by the historical King Sejong, the ruler associated with the creation of Hangul, the drama blends Korean history with a fictional time-travel adventure. Danbi’s knowledge gives her an unexpected place in the royal court, but her growing influence also earns her the hostility of some courtiers, putting her life at risk.
As Danbi grows closer to the king, she finds herself torn between her feelings for him and her desire to return home. For someone who initially wished to escape her present, leaving the past behind becomes an unexpectedly difficult decision.

Kim Seul-gi, known for her comic acting, plays Danbi wonderfully, making the character both humorous and adorable. Yoon Doo-joon also delivers a good performance as the king, matching Kim Seul-gi’s comic timing. Their chemistry keeps the romance engaging without overshadowing the fantasy and humour. The supporting cast includes the charming Ahn Hyo-seop as Park Yeon and Che Ah-jin , Jin Ki-joo as So-heon and Queen Soheon and Im Ye-jin as Dan-bi’s mother and Dowager Queen Hudeok of the Yeoheung Min clan.
The storyline will have you hooked to it and tumbling with laughter with the portrayal of relatable situations. The writer has been able to give a just and happy ending to the drama while giving justice to each and every character.

It is worth the 2 hours and a short yet enjoyable drama with great casting. The present life and the past life have been displayed beautifully. Although the short format leaves less room for elaborate character development, it makes Splash Splash Love an easy watch for anyone looking for romance, comedy, and historical fantasy without committing to a lengthy series. Its message about discovering your potential beyond your insecurities gives the story an added layer of meaning.
So, if you’re in the mood for a drama filled with laughter, romance, and a wonderful time-travelling story but don’t have much time to spare, Splash Splash Love is the perfect pick for you!
